Happy New Year

May I wish all my readers a Happy and Creative New Year. Its been so nice meeting you all through this blog and I hope we can continue to be friends.

Embroidery

See the gorgeous embroidered purse made by my friend Britt. I am lucky enough to have one of these purses, a much loved Christmas present from a few years ago.

New Years Eve today, and I have nothing majorly exciting planned. Just veg out, do a bit of sewing and meet my daughter for coffee. Had better not be at the local plant nursery as I have no intention of being tempted! (By plants, not coffee and cakes)

1" x 1" Art Squares

Here is my set of 1" squares, made from some of the fabric you saw yesterday. These will make a fun addition to a tassel on a bag I am thinking.

making fabric

Yesterday I spent a happy hour or so creating a fabric background for, well, whatever. Have nothing specific in mind for this fabric, but I guess since two postcards will fit onto it, that is what it will eventually end up being. Lots of metallic fabrics and threads used, so it is ultra glittery. These made fabrics are easy and fun to put together. I stitched strips of fabric to a background, cut them across the strips then re-arranged these strips onto the sticky side of iron on interfacing. I lightly stitched these strips down, then re-cut and ironed onto interfacing once again. You can go on doing this until your pieces of fabric get too small to cope with being cut again. My final step was to sprinkle any pieces of metallic thread I had laying around, plus little strips of left over fabric, layered a piece of black tulle over the top and fme'd it all together.

Post Christmas Cheer

I think I sort of got paralysed by the thought of Christmas this year. Definitely I was horrified by the thought of shopping centres, the noise and blatant attempts to force you into consumerism were too much for me. We spent Christmas Day with friends in a house overlooking this view. It was lovely and peaceful, not too hot to sit outside, a lovely warm and happy Christmas Day. LOL except that I spent all day trying to capture the image of a white yacht with white sails slap bang in the middle of the picture, with absolutely no success.

Today I had an idea for making a pendant, here is my afternoon's work, very much a WIP since it did not turn out at all as planned. I have just trimmed it down in shape yet again, still have to bead it, and if I can find where I put my leather scraps I will mount it on a piece of leather. I think, though, I will make another attempt at the pendant I had in my minds eye.

With Apologies to Monet

Well, blush, I do realise my haystack looks nothing like the beautiful one Monet painted, but it is an honest attempt for Textile Tuesday this week. The title was not haystacks, but Monet, and although I love his waterlily paintings, I sat for ages in front of three of his haystacks when our art gallery had an exhibition of Monet's work. I suppose you could say mine floats too, since I reckon it looks a bit like a UFO flying across the ocean here!

Tiger socks

I had a special commission for some more discharge dyed socks. My 4 year old grandson loves his 'tiger' socks and has outgrown the ones I did for him a year or so ago. So 4 pairs of these socks are now waiting for his visit next week. Then little tiger toes will be up and roaring again.

Arty Meme exchange

Oh, I have the nicest little card holder from Alis as part of the arty meme exchange. It took a while to arrive from England, post is a bit slow right now, but I was delighted when I tore open the envelope and found what was inside. Patience was never my strong suite!

Fancy dress

Tonight I am going to a Christmas party and have to wear a decorated hat. This is one of my husband's sunhats that I have recycled into this creation.

More Multiple Threads

I laughed at my title, how can you have more multiples?!!! But this is the last I think. Am going to collect the things I did not sell today as the exhibition comes down. There has been a Festival in Fremantle around the Arts Centre, which is just around the corner, maybe someone has fallen in love with all my stuff and bought it, who knows.

Multiple Threads Exhibition, Fremantle

I spent the day at our exhibition yesterday. We had a constant stream of visitors, most of whom spent some time browsing around. Most seemed knowledgeable about textiles and were very complimentary about our work. We even made some sales, which was very encouraging. I took some groups of work so you can see the variety we offered our visitors.
